Action! Special effects! Costumes! Sets! Props! Believable acting! A script! We probably won't have any of those, but we will have a bunch of fans in a bar with a digital camera.

The Wobblevision formula is as follows:

  • Convene in a bar at a con, preferably late at night after the consumption of much alcohol.
  • Write the titles of episodes from a TV series on scraps of paper and draw one from a hat. Traditionally the series was always Blake's 7 but we're going to do Torchwood at Teledu.
  • Try to remember the plot without referring to an episode guide or script. Cheating will be allowed if nobody can remember it well enough.
  • Write down the names of the main cast members on bits of paper, and get everyone to draw one from a hat. You probably look nothing like your character and may even be the wrong sex/species, but that's all part of the fun.
  • There are probably a few characters left over, so go and press-gang some more fans from the bar to fill up the roles.
  • Write down a list of the most important scenes in the episode, including what happens to whom.
  • Recreate a tableau from each scene in turn and take a photo of it. Sets, props, and costumes are whatever comes to hand (beer bottles make surprisingly versatile props), and other fans are grabbed and pressed into service as extras as necessary.
  • Put the photos on the web in the correct sequence and with appropriate captions.

To give you an idea of the sort of thing we hope to end up with, here's the Blake's 7 Wobblevision of Moloch, featuring this item's organiser as Dayna.

It's very silly and great fun.

The plan is to meet up in the Fannish Living Room, pick an episode from a hat (two-parters will be bundled together as a single episode), make a list of characters and scenes, pick the cast from a hat, then rove about the hotel photographing the scenes wherever seems appropriate. Feel free to bring along appropriate fancy dress and/or props if you wish. Alex will be providing the digital camera and doing the post-production stuff afterwards.
