Parchment craft probably originated in the Spanish cloisters in the 15th century where it was use to decorate and illustrate holy books. Its use spread first to bookbinders in Spain and France, and then across to the New World with the early colonists. It is still very popular in The Netherlands and South America.
The tools and techniques used in parchment craft are still basically the same as when the craft started. Tracing, dry embossing, paper piercing and cutting are used to produce raised patterns and lace like designs of birds, fruit, flowers, heraldic designs or what ever you like.
At Teledu the workshop will let you produce a bookmark using these techniques. It's suitable for any age who can control a pencil to trace accurately, but it does need patience. I'd suggest 8 as a minimum age.
It would be helpful to bring a sharp white pencil, a ruler, and a thin pad of paper or magazine for leaning on but we will have some spare stuff.
