Fan Fete / Five minute games
Ideas for quick games or sideshow type things.
So far I've come up with:
Pin the beard on the fan - an alternative to pin the tail on the donkey
Get Tobes to lose his dignity
A Cake Stall - No joke, a table with cakes for sale. There are lots of fans who enjoy cooking and there are lots who enjoy eating cake. The cakes could be themed "Two slices of the marzipan Orac and a slice of the Orange Apollo 11". - Tregenza
Guess The Number of Pints in Tobes - Win a prize for guessing the number of units of alchol Tobes has consumed in that day. - Tregenza
Blat the Rat - that thing with a drainpipe, a toy rat and a baseball bat. On the other hand, letting drunken fans loose with a bat is probably not such a good idea after all - Darth Tigger
It's worth talking to Bug about this, she did similar for Eastercon last year and also ran Farber Day some years back. There was fortune telling and wheelchair racing. Max
Having given this more thought, I think it's a brilliant idea. It could last a couple of hours on the Saturday afternoon, and be done exactly like a village fete - various stalls and sideshows set out and people just wandering round. Each stall could be independent so no-one would have to organise the whole thing. A sort of Year of the Teledu in miniature (does that make it Day of the Teledu?). - Darth Tigger
We were chatting in the pub a couple of weeks ago about a 'Tobes losing his dignity' game, with different teams having a go at helping Tobes to become undignified. At the end of their turn Tobes has to assert, 'At least I've still got my dignity,' and the audience can vote for their favourite. But we also wondered whether it needed to be a recurring item (10 or 15 minute slots between other items?), because otherwise later teams might not be starting from, um, a clean Tobes. Things to Bring would be up to each team - and perhaps need some cursory vetting by whoever counts as a responsible grown-up around here? - with the crucial exception of Tobes, who would need to bring himself if he's up for this... I generally like the overall fete idea too, which worked very well at Eastercon in 2003. - Fishlifter
