This is an idea from FranDowdSofa, really, but this seems like the ideal convention at which to put the whole thing on a competitive footing. Essentially this involves a bowl of doughnuts in the centre of a large field of custard, with naked hogtied competitors wriggling in to the centre from the edge of the field, to see who will be first to reach the doughnuts. (Speaking as someone who had was involved with implementing a paddling pool full of jelly (looked great on paper), this sort of thing is a lot harder than you think. Apart from the potential problem Dop mentioned, this involves a lot of preparation. - Meike)

(Surely doughnuts shout out for a kind of hoop and stick race approach, but with ringed doughnuts instead of sticks - Jane)

From my experience of the custard pie fight in the Central Hotel Glasgow - custard is very difficult to remove and goes rank over night. Slippery conditions also make for personal injury claims - RobTfish

well instead of vetoing it, or saying how difficult it is, perhaps this idea could be changed to make it work. I like the idea of Donuts and custard, but not wriggling bodies. I am thinking shove happeny or something gone wrong. I need to think about it for a while, and will come up with a solution. james
