Find a hotel by the Day of the Teledu 24th June 2006

If we want to run a convention in Summer 2007, then we need a hotel fast.

Over the last six months I've looked at a large number of hotels, trying to find the perfect Teledu hotel and I haven't found it. The best hotels are either booked up with weddings, too expensive or aren't prepared to handle anything other than business conferances.

As we have not found an ideal hotel, we shall settle for anything that is available and large enough to hold 150 people.

To find this hotel Teledu needs people to look through various online hotel listings (details below) and update this page with anywhere you think is worth considering. If you have the time to do a systematic search that is great but if you have only five minutes then just dive in at random and do what you can.

As you identify the hotels, I and anyone who wants to help will start contacting them, checking their availabilty and then visiting them.

The objective is to have a one or more strong candiate hotels by the next Day of the Teledu (24th June in Croydon) and to book one of them within a couple of weeks of DotT.

If you want Year of the Teledu to happen, put that web browser to work and help find a hotel.

Possible Hotels

These are hotels that have previously been visited whilst looking for the ideal but discarded for one reason or another. Under the new 'we need a hotel fast' plan they are strong contenters but need rechecking.

Bull Hotel, Peterborough (Multimap) This hotel hasn't been used for a convention before, I don't think (apparently it was used to host a couple of Eastercons in the 1960's - Chris), but Max looked at it and came back with some comments. John Coxon

Holiday Inn Shepperton (Multimap) Formally the Shepperton Moat House Hotel, was home to several great conventions including Aliens Stole My Handbag and Damn Fine Convention, and quite a few media/generalist cons in the late 1980s. More recently the home of Discworld conventions. Good convention rooms, but a bit spread around the hotel. But that might be good for an open convention.
