I have a large (6 metre diameter) geodesic dome, which those of you who've been to festivals with me will be familiar with. I really ought to be able to point to a decent picture of it on the net, but this will have to suffice: [1]. The standard version these days is higher than the one seen here, which makes for more usable floor area. Basically, you can get 30+ people sitting in it without too much trouble.

As to what use it might be put to at YotT... any suggestions? It's a cool space, for just chilling out or whatever. It's waterproof, sunproof (in that it doesn't overheat), basically robust as long as you don't actively try to break it...

Of course putting it up is a minor programme item in itself - it needs a few people and takes an hour or so. We could always make it a challenge - give the bits to people who've never done it before and see how far they get :-)

We'd need to get permission from the hotel, I suppose - dunno what their feelings might be on the matter. They might need reassurance that people aren't crashing in it overnight...

P.S. Of course if we built a really big dome then we wouldn't need a hotel - I rather like the idea of a truly DIY convention...

There are more pictures of the dome online, in its slightly larger form, amongst these pictures from Nolly's barbecue in May 2004.

Looks like this isn't really a goer, as I gather that the hotel doesn't have grounds to put it up in.
